Miller, Kings roll past Hawks

03.3.2006

Atlanta, GA (Basketball News) - Brad Miller had 24 points and 10 rebounds as the Sacramento Kings beat the Atlanta Hawks, 102-93, at Philips Arena.

Kevin Martin contributed 19 points and nine boards and Mike Bibby and Ron Artest each scored 18 points for the Kings, who have won three in a row and four of their last five games. Bibby also dished out eight assists.

"Tonight was a really big game for us after winning in Cleveland," said Sacramento coach Rick Adelman. "We have not had very much success on the road. We’ve been in every game but we haven’t won. Now we’ve won two and we’re hoping to keep it going on the five game trip."

Al Harrington chipped in 23 points and 10 rebounds and Joe Johnson netted 19 for the Hawks, who had a two-game winning streak snapped. Marvin Williams added 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting.

The Kings led 65-58 on Kenny Thomas’ free throw, but Atlanta scored 11 of the final 17 points in the period, highlighted by Harrington’s three-point play, to cut the deficit to 71-69 heading into the final frame.

Miller’s three-point play began a 21-9 streak which extended the lead to 92-78. Martin’s trey made the score 83-75 and Bibby’s jumper, moments later, capped the run.

The Hawks responded with a 13-6 rally, including a pair of threes from Harrington, to narrow the gap to 98-91 with 1:15 to play. However, Bibby hit a jumper from just inside the arc on the other end with under a minute remaining to seal the win.

Josh Smith’s jumper gave the Hawks a 15-8 lead, but the Kings came back with a 15-5 run, capped by Artest’s layup, to put Sacramento in front 23-20. Miller’s three-pointer with two seconds on the clock gave the Kings a 26-24 lead after 12 minutes of play.

Atlanta opened the second quarter with a 11-5 spurt, including five points from Salim Stoudamire, to give the Hawks a 35-31 edge.

Bibby’s running layup put the Kings ahead 50-47 at the half.
