NCAA Game Summary - Middle Tennessee State at Rice

Houston, TX (Basketball News) - Jason McKrieth scored 21 points as the Rice Owls defeated the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders, 67-62, in a non- conference affair at Autry Court.

Brock Gillespie tallied 13 points while J.R. Harrison and Michael Harris netted 10 points apiece for the Owls (2-0).

The Blue Raiders (1-1) were led by Mike Dean who finished with 20 points. Michael Cuffee had 12 points and Marcus Morrison added 11 points in the losing effort.

Rice led 21-20 with 7:12 left in the first half and it went on a 14-7 run down the stretch to take a 35-27 lead into the intermission.

Middle Tennessee State outscored the Owls 35-32 in the second half but it was not enough as Rice took the five-point victory.

The Owls shot 46.7 percent from the field in the contest while Middle Tennessee State shot 38.3 percent.
