Portland, OR (Basketball News) - Eddy Curry scored 25 points and Kirk Hinrich had 22, leading the Chicago Bulls to a 97-84 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers at the Rose Garden.
Andres Nocioni added 14 points for the Bulls, who trailed by two points with 10 minutes remaining before outscoring Portland 26-11 the rest of the way for their second straight win.
"We can’t rely on our unbelievable fourth quarter play or great play at the end of games," Hinrich acknowledged. "We talked about continuing to attack the basket. We played a bit smarter. I felt we just needed to make plays."
Shareef Abdur-Rahim collected 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Trail Blazers, who have lost six straight. Travis Outlaw added a career-high 17 points in the loss, and Sebastian Telfair and Damon Stoudamire scored 13 apiece.
Portland led 69-66 heading into the fourth quarter and was ahead 73-71 with 10:06 remaining. Hinrich then hit a jumper to tie the game, and Tyson Chandler’s layup with 8:42 left gave Chicago the lead for good at 75-73.
The Trail Blazers were still within two points with 7:04 remaining, but the Bulls put the game away with a 15-1 run.
Curry and Hinrich scored four points apiece during the surge, with Curry’s dunk capping it for a 93-77 Chicago lead with just 2:30 left. Portland would not get closer than 11 points after that.
"In the fourth quarter, once again, coach (Scott Skiles) saw I was ready and put me out there when the game was on the line," Curry said. "We came up with big shots. This is only the beginning for this team. We’re going to continue to get better and we’ll see what happens."
This was the second and final meeting between the teams this season. The Bulls won the first matchup in Chicago on December 20, snapping a three-game series losing streak.
Portland led by as many as 11 points in the first half on the way to a 45-40 advantage at the break.
