Clippers resume trip at Washington

01.5.2007

(Basketball News) - The Los Angeles Clippers resume their six-game road trip tonight as they pay a visit to the Washington Wizards at the Verizon Center.

Los Angeles is 1-1 so far on the trek and has won four of its last five games, including Wednesday’s 110-95 win over the Miami Heat at AmericanAirlines Arena.

Elton Brand scored 28 points, while Chris Kaman matched a season-high with 20 points for the Clippers, who are 3-11 away from home this season. Corey Maggette posted 16 points and 11 rebounds and Quinton Ross had 13 points in the win. Shaun Livingston and Daniel Ewing both added 12 points.

The Clippers, who are tied with the Kings for last place in the Pacific Division, will also visit Atlanta, New Orleans/Oklahoma City and Minnesota on the swing.

Meanwhile, Washington will close out a brief two-game homestand and has won six of seven and 12 of its last 15 games. On Wednesday the Wizards posted a 108-105 victory over Milwaukee at the Verizon Center.

Gilbert Arenas recorded 32 points and buried the game-winning three-pointer as the buzzer sounded to lift Washington over the Bucks. Arenas fell two assists shy of a triple-double with eight and 11 rebounds. Caron Butler scored 29 points and tallied a career-high nine assists, while Antawn Jamison scored 22 points and grabbed nine boards.

Washington, which is tied with Orlando atop the Southeast Division, has won five straight at home and is 12-3 as the host this season.

Friday’s game is the first meeting of the season between both teams. The Clippers went 2-0 in last year’s series and have won three in a row against the Wizards.

Washington, though, has won seven of 11 and eight of the last 13 matchups.

The Clippers have dropped six of nine and eight of their last 12 trips to D.C.
