(Basketball News) - Dirk Nowitzki scored 10 of his career-high 53 points in overtime to lead the Dallas Mavericks past the Houston Rockets, 113-106, on Thursday at AmericanAirlines Center.
Nowitzki, whose 53 points established a franchise best, scored the first 10 points of overtime and helped the Mavericks to their third win in the last four games. Nowitzki had a solid night on the court, also pulling down 16 rebounds and making 15-of-32 shots from the field. He sank 21-of-22 foul shots.
Marquis Daniels and Jason Terry both netted 14 points for Dallas, winners of eight of the last nine meetings with the Rockets.
Nowitzki opened the extra session on fire and his three-point play staked Dallas to a 98-93 advantage. He was sent back to the line and buried both tries to make it 100-93. Nowitzki kept the hot hand and his three-pointer with 3:36 left staked the Mavericks to a 103-93 cushion.
Tracy McGrady would end the Nowitzki show with a three and pull the Rockets within seven with 2 1/2 minutes to go. Another trey by McGrady with just over a minute left trimmed the deficit to 108-104, but the Rockets would get no closer and suffered the seven-point loss.
Nowitzki has recorded a double-double in five straight games and eight of his last nine outings. He has scored 20 or more points in 14-of-16 games this season.
The Mavericks are off until Saturday when they host the Utah Jazz. Last season the teams split four contests.
