(Basketball News) - The Dallas Mavericks shoot for their third straight victory this afternoon, when they finish up a four-game road trip against the Washington Wizards at the MCI Center. Today’s game will mark the first matchup between the clubs since exchanging veteran players in the offseason.
Washington sent Jerry Stackhouse, Christian Laettner, and a No. 5 draft pick to Dallas for reigning NBA Sixth Man of the Year Antawn Jamison.
Dallas has won two of its first three of its current road swing, including a 94-78 victory over New Jersey on Saturday. Dirk Nowitzki poured in 31 points, grabbed seven rebounds and handed out seven assists to pace Dallas to the win. Nowitzki has been outstanding early in the season, averaging 27.3 points, 9.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists per contest.
Jerry Stackhouse chipped in 28 points off the bench for Dallas, which improved to 6-1 on the season. Marquis Daniels had 11 points and six boards for the Mavericks, who have won nine straight meetings with New Jersey.
Josh Howard pulled down 10 rebounds for the Mavericks, who have held their first seven opponents under 100 points. Meanwhile, Dallas is averaging 102.4 points per contest (3rd-NBA).
The Mavericks have won three of their first four road contests this season.
Dallas has won eight of the last 11 games in this series after a string of five consecutive losses to the Washington. The Mavericks had won five in a row at Washington until its 100-90 loss on 11/5/03.
