12.19.2005

(Basketball News) - The Golden State Warriors play the third contest of a five-game road trip when they visit the Boston Celtics tonight at TD Banknorth Garden.

Boston has won three of four and five of the last seven meetings in the series, while these two teams have split the last 12 contests overall. Golden State has dropped two in a row and three of its last four at Beantown.

The Warriors are 1-1 on the current road trip. On Sunday, All-Star Vince Carter scored 25 points to lead the New Jersey Nets past Golden State, 118-90, at Continental Airlines Arena.

Troy Murphy scored 19 points in the loss to the Nets for the Warriors, while two-time All-Star Baron Davis netted 18 for the Warriors, who have dropped two of their last three contests.

Golden State, which will also visit Philadelphia and Detroit on the current swing, is 6-4 on the road this season. The Warriors defeated Toronto in the first contest of the trip.

Boston attempts to halt a two-game losing streak as it opens a brief two-game homestand. On Saturday, Mike Sweetney scored 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds as the Chicago Bulls crushed the Celtics, 118-86, at the United Center.

Ricky Davis had 21 points, eight boards and six assists in the loss to the Bulls for Boston, while Paul Pierce netted 20 points for the Celtics, who have dropped four of their last five games overall.

The Celtics are 7-6 at home this season. They will host the Utah Jazz on Wednesday in the finale of the short homestand.

This is the first of two meetings this season between the Warriors and Celtics. Golden State is scheduled to host Boston on December 28th at The Arena in Oakland.
