Grant reportedly heading to Phoenix

08.16.2005

Phoenix, AZ (Basketball News) - The Phoenix Suns and free agent forward Brian Grant have reportedly agreed to a two-year deal. The Arizona Republic reports that the deal is for the $1.67 million biannual exception with a player option for a second season.

Grant, though, will be the richest player on the Suns roster next season, as he is still slated to earn $29.8 million over the next two seasons from the Los Angeles Lakers, who designated him as their amnesty waiver choice.

According to the new NBA Collective Bargaining Agreement, each team was permitted to waive one "amnesty" player on or before Monday and to remove that player’s salary from its payroll for purposes of computing its tax payment for the 2005-06 season and any future seasons for which the player was under contract.

An 11-year veteran, Grant played in 68 games last season with the Lakers, averaging just 3.8 points per contest and pulling down 3.7 rebounds - both career lows.

Grant, who was acquired by Los Angeles in the blockbuster deal that sent Shaquille O’Neal to the Miami Heat last summer, has averaged 10.7 ppg and 7.6 rpg in 735 career games with the Sacramento Kings, Portland Trail Blazers, Heat and Lakers.
