Grizzlies, Spurs clash in Memphis

04.16.2007

(Basketball News) - The playoff-bound San Antonio Spurs try to get back on the winning track when they take on the NBA-worst Memphis Grizzlies this evening at FedExForum.

San Antonio is third overall in the Western Conference standings, but had its six-game winning streak stopped with Sunday’s 91-86 loss to the NBA-best Dallas Mavericks at American Airlines Center.

Tony Parker had 23 points to lead the Spurs, who had a six-game win streak halted and lost for only the second time in 14 games. Manu Ginobili added 16 points for San Antonio, which will be No. 3 heading into the Western Conference playoffs.

The Spurs are 1-1 on a three-game road trip and 27-13 as the visitor this season. They will wrap up the 2006-07 regular-season schedule on Wednesday versus the Denver Nuggets at the AT&T Center.

Memphis put the brakes on a six-game losing streak with Saturday’s 133-118 win over the Nuggets at FedExForum. Chucky Atkins posted 28 points and 12 assists, as the Grizzlies improved to 13-27 at home this season.

Tarence Kinsey also netted a career-high 28 points for Memphis, while Hakim Warrick notched 20 points and 11 rebounds in the triumph. The Grizzlies are 1-1 so far on a three-game homestand, and will close out their season on Wednesday at Minnesota.

In injury news for Memphis, forward Rudy Gay (ankle) is doubtful versus the Spurs.

Monday’s game between Southwest Division foes is the fourth and final meeting of the season. The Spurs are 3-0 in the series and have won seven straight, eight of nine and nine of the last 14 matchups.

San Antonio has also won three straight and 16 of its last 20 at Memphis.
