01.17.2007

(Basketball News) - The surging Minnesota Timberwolves go for their fourth straight victory when they welcome the Atlanta Hawks tonight to the Target Center.

This is the first of two meetings between the clubs this season. Atlanta is scheduled to host the Timberwolves on March 10th at Philips Arena.

Atlanta has lost eight straight after winning its last six at Minnesota. These teams have split the last six contests in this series.

Minnesota plays the first of a brief two-game homestand. Kevin Garnett had 19 points, 14 rebounds, five blocks, and sealed the game with two from the free throw line late in overtime, as the Timberwolves downed the Detroit Pistons, 94-90, at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Ricky Davis had 21 points and Trenton Hassell added 15 points and 11 rebounds in the win over Detroit for the Timberwolves, who have won seven of their last eight games overall.

The Timberwolves are 12-6 at the Target Center this season. They will host the Pistons on Friday.

Atlanta tries to extend its winning streak to three games this evening. Josh Childress had a season-high 23 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Hawks to a 100-96 win over the Boston Celtics on Monday at Philips Arena.

Josh Smith added 18 points, seven blocks and five steals, while Joe Johnson netted 18 and pulled down nine rebounds in the win over Boston for the Hawks, who have won two in a row.

The Hawks are just 5-13 on the road this season. They will host the Charlotte Bobcats on Friday at Philips Arena in the first of a home-and-home set. The Bobcats will host Atlanta on Saturday at Charlotte Bobcats Arena.
