Hawks try to stop losing streak vs. Nuggets

12.12.2006

(Basketball News) - The Atlanta Hawks attempt to put the brakes on a two-game losing streak, as they welcome the Denver Nuggets tonight to Philips Arena.

This is the second and final time the teams will play this season. On December 6th, rookie Shelden Williams hit the winning two free throws with 5.4 seconds left as the Hawks edged the Nuggets, 98-96, at the Pepsi Center.

Denver has lost 15 of its last 16 at Atlanta. The Hawks have won two in a row in this series.

The Hawks return home after going 2-3 on a five-game homestand. On Sunday, Brad Miller scored 19 points and Corliss Williamson netted 18 to lead the Sacramento Kings past Atlanta, 117-92, at ARCO Arena.

Salim Stoudamire led Atlanta with 26 points on 10-of-17 shooting in the loss to Sacramento, while Solomon Jones scored 14 in defeat. Tyronn Lue ended with 10 points for the Hawks, who have dropped six of their last nine games overall.

Atlanta is 4-4 at home this season. The Hawks will visit the New York Knicks on Wednesday and the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday.

The Nuggets play the second of a five-game road trip. On Saturday, Josh Howard tied a career-high with 30 points and pulled down 11 rebounds as the Dallas Mavericks coasted to a 105-90 win over Denver at American Airlines Center.

Carmelo Anthony shot just 8-of-26 from the floor and finished with 18 points in the loss to Dallas for the Nuggets. J.R. Smith also scored 18 for Denver, which has lost two of its last three games overall.

Denver is 5-3 on the road this season. The Nuggets are scheduled to visit Washington on Wednesday, Boston on Friday and New York on Saturday.
