Houston Rockets Team Report - January 3

(Basketball News) - Tracy McGrady scored 25 points and Bob Sura contributed 24 points and 10 rebounds, as the Houston Rockets defeated the Utah Jazz, 99-80, on Sunday at the Toyota Center.

Yao Ming had 15 points and Juwan Howard collected 14 points and 12 boards for Houston, which has won three in a row and seven of its last 10 contests. Yao sat out the previous game against Milwaukee with the flu, marking the first time in his NBA career that he had missed a contest.

Prior to Sunday’s game, the Rockets activated guard Andre Barrett and forward Ryan Bowen from the injured list and placed forward Clarence Weatherspoon on the IL with a calf injury.

McGrady has scored 20 or more points in 10 straight games. He is averaging 28.2 points, 7.5 rebounds and six assists in that span.

Houston is off until Wednesday when it hosts Amare Stoudemire and the Phoenix Suns. It will be the first of four meetings between the teams this season.

After Wednesday’s game, the Rockets go on a three-game road trip. Houston is scheduled to visit the Los Angeles Lakers, Denver Nuggets and the Dallas Mavericks.
