Iguodala and Iverson help Sixers beat Mavs

11.9.2005

Philadelphia, PA (Basketball News) - Andre Iguodala matched a career-high with 22 points to go with seven rebounds and five assists, as the Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Dallas Mavericks, 112-97, at the Wachovia Center.

Allen Iverson netted a game-high 25 points and Kyle Korver poured in 20 points for Philadelphia, which has won two straight after dropping its first three games of the season.

Chris Webber posted 19 points and 11 boards in the win.

Dallas forward Dirk Nowitzki left the game with a back injury in the second quarter and did not return. He still finished with 14 points for the Mavericks, who have dropped two of three since beating Phoenix in double- overtime in the season opener.

Reserve Keith Van Horn led Dallas with 19 points and 13 rebounds, while Jason Terry went 3-for-5 from behind the arc and finished with 15 points.

Trailing by six at halftime, the Sixers used an 18-7 run to assume a 76-71 lead by the end of the third quarter. Lee Nailon’s tip shot with 55 seconds remaining in the third put Philadelphia ahead by one, and Iguodala later connected on a pair of three throw attempts to stretch the lead to five points.

The Sixers’ charge continued in the fourth, as John Salmons hit a jumper with 10:29 to play to stretch the lead to 81-71. Salmons got his own rebound later in the frame and made a layup plus the foul to push the lead to 14 before Korver nailed a three-pointer from the corner to make it 91-75.

Dallas cut the deficit to 10 with 2:20 remaining, but would get no closer.

With the game knotted at 26-26 after one quarter of play, Dallas used a 6-0 run late in the second stanza to assume a 50-44 lead. During the midst of that run, however, Nowitzki left the floor and headed to the locker room holding his back with both hands.

The Mavericks would maintain that six-point lead regardless, as Terry buried a long two-pointer to give his team a 52-46 edge at halftime.

Game Notes

Dallas guard Devin Harris left in the third quarter with a left ankle sprain and did not return...This was the first of a four-game homestand for Philadelphia. It will host the Lakers, Clippers and Toronto Raptors as well...Dallas is 1-2 away from home this season... These two teams split their two matchups last season. The Mavericks have won five of nine and six of the last 11 meetings.
