Iguodala gives All-Star performance as Sixers down Cavs

Philadelphia, PA (Basketball News) - Andre Iguodala poured in 25 points on 9- of-15 shooting to lead Philadelphia to a 116-107 win over Cleveland at the Wachovia Center.

Iguodala seemed to be brimming with confidence after an All-Star weekend in which he excelled in both the rookie/sophomore game and the dunk contest.

Allen Iverson added 29 points and 12 assists for the Sixers, who won for just the third time in their last nine outings. Chris Webber recorded 24 points and 14 rebounds while Kyle Korver came off the bench to drop 13 in the win.

LeBron James tallied a game-high 33 points for the Cavaliers, who lost for the first time in four games. Zydrunas Ilgauskas netted 27 points and pulled down nine boards while Donyell Marshall popped off the bench to score 16 in the loss.

Philadelphia took a seven-point advantage into the final quarter and continued to keep Cleveland at arm’s length. A pair of Korver free throws extended the Sixers’ cushion to double digits at 101-90 with 6:42 left on the clock.

Nearly 2 1/2 minutes later Korver took a dribble handoff and buried a long three to give the Sixers a 13-point advantage, 108-95.

The Cavs had one last push in them, however, and scored 10 of the game’s next 12 points to make it a five-point game, 110-105, with 2:11 remaining.

Ilgauskas buried a pair from the charity stripe to start the burst and Marshall followed with a long three. After Samuel Dalembert answered with a bucket, Cleveland came back with a James driving layup and three more free throws.

Iverson finally responded with a key jumper. The bucket made it 112-105 with only 1:31 left.

Thirty-six seconds later, John Salmons sealed things when he got loose inside for a lay-in.

The Sixers shot 58 percent in the first quarter and raced out to a 28-21 lead.

Philadelphia continued to play frontrunner into the intermission with a 59-49 edge. Webber led the Sixers with 14 at the break while Ilgauskas had 22 for Cleveland.

Webber’s jumper with just under seven minutes left in the third quarter gave the Sixers their largest lead of the night, 75-58.

The Cavs fought back and ended the quarter with a 22-12 flurry to get back in the game and make the score 87-80 heading to the final frame.

Game Notes

Iverson reached two milestones Wednesday. He recorded his 4,000th assist and now has 4,005 in his career. He also passed Glen Rice and is now 48th on the NBA’a list of all-time leading scorers with 18,359 points. Next on the list for Iverson is former Sixers’ great Julius Erving, who has 18,364 points...This is the sixth time this season that three players on the Sixers have scored 20-plus points. The Sixers have won all six contests...The Sixers, who are 17-11 at home this season, have won 22 of the last 26 meetings in this series...The Cavaliers are 12-15 on the road this season.
