"We have made it plain to our players and our fans that players may not enter the spectator stands, no matter the provocation, and the violations of this policy will be treated with the utmost seriousness," said NBA senior vice president of basketball operations Stu Jackson. "We have concluded, however, that Antonio’s actions were the result of his belief that his family members required his immediate assistance, and have taken those mitigating circumstances into account in setting the length of the suspension."
The president of the NBA Player’s Association ran into the stands with 1:04 remaining in the overtime period of the Knicks’ 106-104 loss at the United Center. He allegedly saw his wife being threatened by a fan who may have been intoxicated. The forward threw no punches and seemed to remain calm throughout the encounter.
Davis’ suspension will begin for tonight’s game against the Detroit Pistons and will continue through the rest of the homestand with the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets, Sacramento Kings and Orlando Magic. He will return to action after the Philadelphia 76ers game on January 28.
