Kobe and Ron Artest earn Player of the Week honors

New York, NY (Basketball News) - Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers and Ron Artest of Indiana were named Western and Eastern Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Monday, March 22 through Sunday, March 28.

Bryant, who led the Lakers to a perfect 3-0 mark this past week, averaged 35.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists in those three contests.

He started the week with 36 points in 37 minutes in a 115-91 triumph over the Sacramento Kings on March 24. Two nights later, Bryant netted 35 points and added nine boards in a 90-73 win over the Timberwolves.

Bryant finished the week with a 34 point, six rebound and four assist effort in a 91-84 win over the Jazz on Sunday night.

Artest guided the Pacers to a 4-0 mark this past week, recording 22.0 points, 4.5 assists and 4.5 steals in those four games. Artest’s week was highlighted with 20 points and eight rebounds in a 115-91 rout over Dallas. He also tied a team record with eight steals in the win.

He finished the week with a monster game against Orlando. He posted a career high in points with 35, hauling down seven boards with five assists and three steals in a 107-92 win over the Magic.

Golden State’s Erick Dampier, Houston’s Yao Ming, Miami’s Lamar Odom and Dwyane Wade, Philadelphia’s Kenny Thomas and Portland’s Damon Stoudamire were also considered for the awards.
