Mavericks’ Mbenga tears ACL, out for season

02.8.2007

Dallas, TX (Basketball News) - The Dallas Mavericks learned on Thursday that center D.J. Mbenga suffered an anterior cruciate ligament tear in the team’s 113-97 win over Memphis on Wednesday.

When Mbenga left in the fourth quarter of the Mavs’ win against the Grizzlies, it was believed that he suffered a right knee strain. However, an MRI taken on Thursday revealed the severity of the injury.

The 7-foot center, who averaged just 0.8 points and 0.5 rebounds in 21 games for Dallas this season, will undergo surgery in the next two weeks and miss the rest of the season.
