Memphis Grizzlies Team Report - November 27 11.27.2004
|
(Basketball News) - The Memphis Grizzlies will continue life without Hubie Brown this evening, as they host the Dallas Mavericks in their first home game since the head coach stepped down.
The Grizzlies played Friday night in Minnesota and were pounded 115-90 by the Timberwolves.
Memphis was taking the floor just one day after finding out that head coach Hubie Brown retired due to health reasons. Brown led the Grizzlies to their first-ever 50-win campaign and a playoff appearance last season on the way to Coach of the Year honors. Lionel Hollins, who coached the Grizzlies in Vancouver and was an assistant under Brown, was named interim bench boss.
Kevin Garnett shot 11-of-15 for 26 points to go with 15 rebounds to lead the T’Wolves in the rout.
Mike Miller paced the Grizzlies with 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting. Pau Gasol returned from a three-game absence due to a sprained ankle to score 17 points with seven rebounds.
Memphis’ Stromile Swift missed his second game in a row with a scratched cornea. He is questionable for tonight’s contest.
The Mavericks posted an easy 112-88 victory over the Grizzlies on November 6, marking the 12th straight time in the series that the winning team has scored over 100 points. Dallas has won 14 of 16 and 17 of the last 20 meetings. The Mavs are 14-3 all-time on the road against the Grizzlies, who were based in Vancouver prior to the 2001-02 season.
