(Basketball News) - Kevin Garnett finished with 33 points and 25 rebounds, leading Minnesota to a 112-109 overtime win over Sacramento on Friday in a see-saw battle at ARCO Arena.
Garnett hit two three-pointers in the final 27 seconds of regulation to send the game into overtime, the fourth consecutive contest between these teams that needed an extra session to decide the game, setting an NBA record.
Latrell Sprewell poured in 37 points and Sam Cassell added 26 for the Timberwolves, who won for the third time in four games.
With the game tied at 106-106 in the extra session, Sprewell converted on a jumper to put Minnesota ahead for good with 1:39 left. Miller was then fouled, and for the second time in the contest, didn’t come through in the clutch from the line, as he hit just 1-of-2.
Sprewell then hit a midrange jumper to make it 110-107 with 39.3 seconds remaining. Following a missed shot by Mike Bibby, Cassell iced the win with a lay-in to expand the lead to five with just seconds left to play.
Sacramento’s Brad Miller hit a basket at the buzzer to create the final margin.
Minnesota will return to the court on Sunday when they head to Los Angeles to face the Clippers.
