Trade Proposal For Miami Heat & L.A. Clippers: Jason Williams & Antoine Walker For Sam Cassell & Corey Maggette?

August 09 07

One HoopsVibe the Blog reader proposed this trade between Miami and L.A. (Clippers):

The Heat trade Jason Williams, Antoine Walker, and Wayne Simien to the Clippers in exchange for Corey Maggette, Sam Casasell, Quinton Ross, and Aaron Williams.

The Heat should trade with the Clippers. The Clips need to replace a point guard and get help up front. The Heat needs a scorer and a slasher. The only reasonable trade would be J. Williams, Walker and Simien to the Clips for Maggette, Cassell, Ross and A. Williams. It works out. Walker can slide in for Brand and Maggette would be a great fit for the Heat.

Reader comments on this trade proposal:

Chi Town’s Finest:

I like that suggestion of the Heat trading with the Clips. That’s an amazing trade, Cassell has a few years left and by the time Shaq’s contract is done and he retires, Miami has enough money to go after a great point and or center.

JBC:

Players the Heat have to trade, if there are takers, should be: Walker, Williams, and Doleac. And maybe to spice it up include Haslem or even Dorell (Wright) Just to get rid of the first three.

Anonymous:

You guys complain of the Heat not making moves and that they should be rebuilding. Yet you suggest trading guys like Dorrell (Wright) or Simien. Those are two guys right there that may be the Heat’s future. Dorrell (Wright) is still extremely young and showed some promise last season and Simien can be a solid role player.

Right now all the Heat need is a proven 3rd option scorer; no need to completely rebuild. In my opinion, even though Pietrus isn’t the smartest player, he’d be a good addition. Because I feel it’s Dorrell’s time to start getting more minutes and Pietrus is good for about 20-25 minutes a night, so the two of them can split (minutes).

Plus Pietrus wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg, and he gives us youth, length, and athleticism. And he’ better offensively then Posey. He can also play SG which would be great for Wade.

My Quick Take: Thanks to all the HoopsVibe The Blog readers for taking time to comment on posts. You guys make this blog work, so keep hitting us with your opinions in the comment box below. It doesn’t matter if you agree or disagree with the post. Your thoughts are always welcome. Special thanks to the four readers whose comments were used for this post.

One final thought: this is a hypothetical discussion. There’s nothing official about it. It’s a thoughtful suggestion from a reader. Treat it as such.

As for the trade proposal: the Heat and Clippers have to do something. The sun is setting on Miami’s Shaq-Wade era, so they need a change to stay competitive, while Los Angeles needs help after Brand’s injury.

This proposal favors Miami. No question about it. The Heat could use Maggette’s athleticism and offensive game. Cassell’s mouth and competitive nature would prevent his new teammates from becoming apathetic like last season.

The Heat would get some cap flexibility, too. Maggette is under contract for two more years at a combined total of 16 million dollars, while Cassell earns 6 million dollars in the final year of his deal. Walker is on the books for three years at 30 million dollars; Williams has one more year on his deal at 8.5 million dollars.

Walker would get his numbers on a bad Clippers team. It’s like his 60 games in Atlanta, part deux. However, he’s not capable of carrying a team anymore. Williams would entertain the B-list celebs sitting courtside at Staples Center, but would get frustrated with losing. Simien would be the only real positive for Mike Dunleavy’s club; he has the potential to develop into a nice player-a poor man’s Brand, in fact.

I’m not sure if this trade proposal helps Los Angeles. They need to figure out a direction after Brand’s injury. Of course, they are the Clippers, so they’ll probably make a rash decision like this trade.

Who wins this trade proposal: Miami or L.A. (Clippers)? Get at us in the comment box below with your thoughts.

Heat should trade Shaq for Cassell, Kaman & Q Ross. Heat get a center with nasty moves around the hoop, a guard who knows how to win and a 2-3 defender. Shaq gets back to Staples and stomps on the Kobe-Fakers. .

I agree Voice Of Reason. Hence the author suggesting it as a rash decision for the Clipps and stating that it is not official. .

Anyone who is even considering this trade proposal to be real, or even a viable option (including the NBA Organizations represented here in name) needs an immediate mental health check. You’ve got to be freaking kidding me! The suggestion is idiotic at best. I am a loyal HEAT fan... ala Shaq being traded to them from the Laker Franchise I followed since the Showtime era; Nevertheless, if you can see the clippers opening up their arms to catch Pat Riley’s turds, and then giving him back peanuts and corn out of the exchange... you’ve got to be a nut! The suggestion of this trade is plane corny! .

If only teams would listen to un bloggers. we are the fans and this is what we want. Basketball was so boring last year it reminded me of the lockout season. This would be a great trade. Im not a shaq fan but i wold love to see him in the playofs every year he has left. After him it will be no more dominant players. Thx Miami for bringing Penny back. he is a great character for the NBA. CRING back little penny Hardaway back that would be a riot. .

If that trade comes to reality then the Heat should everything to clinch it. Walker isn’t as good as everyone say-just because he’s a veteran doesn’t mean that he’s great. I like Williams’ game but he can be replaced though. There’s only 1 thing that Heat CAN’T do...let go Dorrell. They should look 4 a trade excluding Dorrell & Haslem, if thre’s no other choice then include Haslem to L.A trade. Yet I think that the trade won’t finally happen & if it does I’ll be laughing at Clippers 4 next few years. .

i think its a win-win situation but the better going to the clips. the clips are desperate for a pg (j-will) and the heat need a solid 3rd scoring option(cory) so if this trade were to happen it would give the heat and clips a promising chance for next years playoffs... .

I say no to no! Walker’s a bit of a baby. He once pouted on the bench at an NBA All-star game because he minutes were going to the great Michael Jordan as it was His Airness’ final All-Star game. He ruined those Dirk, Nash, Finley Dallas teams. And he’s always been about getting his to a degree. So let’s be real for a while. Can you take of the Antoine Walker chearleader pom-poms and think objectively instead of giving us Your Biased typical BS .

Walker deserves better then to be a Clipper and to say his stats in Atlanta were anything but legit is not giving him enough credit for his part in the Celtics 2001-2003 seasons. Typical BS. .

wow. this "asa" guy is illiterate and clearly doesnt know what hes talking about. Corey Maggette has 2 years left on his contract for about $16 million. Walker has 3 years left (before team option) at $28 million. so not only is asa illiterate, but he’s mathematically impaired as well. likewise, J. Will has $9 mil for 1 year left on his contract, Cassell is $6 mil for 1 year. the upside for the Clippers is that J.Will is 6 years younger than Cassell and could give the Clips another 3 or 4 years health permitting. Cassell is 37 years old and will probably be done after this year. .

Ha, ha, ha, ha ha, LMAO here! Wallace sounds like a fat guys name. That’s a fruity name and only a loser would be named Wallace. I also think anybody who likes to go by the name wal is lame. As for the hoops subject, this trade sucks for both teams and shouldn’t even be consider, I’m out like disco! .

as a Heat fan, i love this trade. but as someone of sound mind who doesn’t smoke crack, i don’t think it’s gonna happen. nevermind Cassell and Maggette (who would both be upgrades, IMO), getting someone to take Walker’s contract off our hands would be a miracle in and of itself. .

well i think maggette wis indeed a good addition to the miami he can score i think he was they second scorer on the clippers so for him to play with wade and shaq hell halp them along with cassell he brings experience which is another plus for guys like wright who shined last season when wade was out so i think he should have a great future with miami if they keep him .

If this trade did go down, Miami would be the clear winner. Clippers would be even dumber than they have been in the past to do a trade like this. But ultimately I don’t see this trade ever happening .
