Who Will Lead The Phoenix Suns: Steve Nash And Raja Bell Or Amare Stoudemire?September 04 07 The Arizona Republic reports on Amare Stoudemire assuming a leadership role with the Suns next season:
Amare Stoudemire is in love with basketball more than ever since breaking free from the physical and mental limitations caused by knee surgeries in October 2005 and April 2006. Mike D’Antoni will turn more leadership over to Stoudemire, who has longed for the chance but has been learning how and when to do so in recent years. He has communicated with teammates this summer to touch base and "took notes" on Steve Nash’s leadership skills for the past three years.
My Quick Take: I like Amare Stoudemire. I like his athleticism. I like his work ethic. I even like the whacked-out, eccentric wardrobe he sported two seasons ago when chained to the bench with knee injuries. However, Stoudemire should realize you don’t become a leader by taking notes on others. You either have leadership skills or you don’t. Teammates see through guys trying to lead. No disrespect to Stoudemire, but Steve Nash and Raja Bell are Phoenix’s leaders. Nash gives the Suns their identity as an unselfish, run-and-gun offensive outfit, while Bell provides toughness on both ends of the floor. Stoudemire’s interest in being a leader is a positive sign. It shows he’s prepared to be accountable and wants to be a good teammate. This hasn’t always been the case: "If you rented a large ballroom and invited in all the professional athletes for whom self-absorption is the default sensibility, you wouldn’t have room for a card table. But space would have to be found for Stoudemire. He wants the Suns to win, of course, but he needs to be the star." (Jack McCallum, :07 Seconds or Less)
The Suns should be happy that Stoudemire has improved his attitude. He’s already The Man on-the-court. Why force him to be The Man off-the-court? Who do you see as the leader of the Phoenix Suns? Best regards . | Posted by Ya Boy on 09.4.2007 | Wow this is the 1st topic i seen in all NBA anything that everybody agreed on the same thing WOW thats just funny some where in every topic with the NBA you got somebody thinking they know it all its just amuzing to see yall agreed on the same thing i dont like the suns so i have no reply but somebody reply back n let me no if it the same to yall when yous read topic or w/e bout the NBA . | Posted by jake133231 on 09.4.2007 | nash is still the leader..withouth nash..the suns is not hot..because nash is the main reason for keeping the suns hot..or top seed..amare is still young and there still lots of oppurtunities for him..amare has become star because of nash... . | Posted by Rico on 09.4.2007 | Nash and Bell are the leaders yes. And unless Stoudemire matures leaps and bounds, his successor (as was before he arrived) will be Shawn Marion.I love STAT. But I don’t think he’ll be given leadership opportunities so long as there are an overabundance of Alpha Dog wanna bes. And with Nash and Bell as well as Barbosa and Stoudemire, the leadership boat seems pretty full to me. Why not take a page from Robert Horry’s book? Better to be an awesome indian than a lousy cowboy. . | Posted by b4hoops.blogspot.com on 09.4.2007 | I agree with the previous posters, Nash is the undisputed leader of the Phoenix Suns. Having said that, Nash will retire soon enough, and Amare will need to assume that leadership role and become the face of the Suns franchise — so, it’s good to hear that he is thinking along those lines. . | Posted by The Truth Squad on 09.4.2007 | Nash will be the leader because he is the one who decides who will score and who will not. Amare wants to be the star and give orders. That is not what a leader does. . | Posted by blaaat on 09.4.2007 | nash will get his i think nash will still be the leader because he sets up ppl anf find them but if ur talking the best player between both bcuz bell is no contest lol ima go with stoudemire hes coming back next season with international experience man . |
