(Basketball News) - The Atlanta Hawks lost to the Portland Trail Blazers, 93-85, on Thursday at Philips Arena.
Stephen Jackson paced the Hawks with 15 points and six assists. Jason Terry netted 14 points and Nazr Mohammed contributed 13 points and eight boards for Atlanta, which has lost two in a row and eight of its last 12 games. Shareef Abdur-Rahim collected 13 points and seven rebounds in the loss.
The Trail Blazers opened the third quarter with a 20-6 burst, highlighted by 11 points from Rasheed Wallace, to grab a 57-48 lead.
Portland’s advantage reached 11 at 68-57 on a dunk by Ruben Patterson early in the fourth quarter. The Hawks then stormed back and cut the deficit to 74-72 on two free throws by Abdur-Rahim with 6:09 left.
Derek Anderson then sank a three-pointer to ignite an 11-3 spurt that staked the Trail Blazers to a commanding 85-75 lead with 1:26 remaining. The margin reached as many as 12 in the closing seconds.
Jackson has scored in double digits in nine straight and 15 of the last 16 games. He is averaging 18.9 points and 4.4 rebounds in his last seven contests.
The Hawks are off until Saturday when they host Michael Redd and Central Division rival Milwaukee.
