(Basketball News) - Stephen Jackson scored 31 of his 36 points in the first half, as Atlanta withstood a furious second-half comeback to post a 111-110 win over Dallas on Wednesday at the AmericanAirlines Center.
Jackson ended 14-of-23 from the field. Jason Terry added 25 points and 10 assists for the Hawks, who snapped a two-game losing streak. Bob Sura chipped in 19 points and 11 rebounds in the win.
Leading by 14 heading into the final period, Dallas began the fourth with a 12-4 run to climb within 94-88. However, the Hawks withstood the rush and extended the cushion to 105-94 moments later.
The Mavericks refused to go away as they reeled off nine of the next 11 points and pulled within 107-103 with just under three minutes left. Jackson hit a free throw, but Steve Nash then made a layup and a three-pointer sandwiched around Jackson’s dunk to cut the deficit to 110-108 with 58.8 seconds left.
Jason Collier was then fouled and made 1-of-2 from the line to make it a three-point game with 41.6 seconds left. Nash then converted a driving layup to bring his team within one and after a Terry miss, Dirk Nowitzki then grabbed the rebound with 12 seconds remaining.
Nash’s runner as time expired was off the mark and thwarted Dallas’ furious comeback attempt.
The Hawks won for only the third time in their last 15 road games and improved to 8-27 away from home this season.
Atlanta will return to action on Friday when they wrap up a brief two-game road trip against the Washington Wizards at the MCI Center. The Hawks have taken two of three from the Wizards this season and have won four of the last five meetings.
Atlanta is 3-12 in Friday games this season.
