(Basketball News) - The Atlanta Hawks were defeated Tuesday by the Los Angeles Clippers, 115-103, at the Staples Center.
Shareef Abdur-Rahim posted 23 for the Hawks, who have lost three of their last four. Dion Glover added 22 points and seven boards, and Stephen Jackson registered 17 points.
Atlanta pulled within 80-75 on a jumper by Jacque Vaughn with 1:06 left in the third.
But the Clippers scored four straight points. Quentin Richardson tipped in a shot and Corey Maggette delivered an alley-oop dunk with 31 seconds remaining to give them an 84-75 edge.
Glover’s three-pointer at the buzzer got the Hawks within 84-78 at the end of the quarter.
Atlanta scored the initial four points of the fourth quarter to pull within 84-83.
However, Los Angeles responded with a 9-4 flurry. Melvin Ely’s three-point play with 9:47 to go triggered it. Marko Jaric’s layup, 2:21 later, opened a 93-87 advantage.
The Clippers stretched their lead to 103-93 on two foul shots by Chris Wilcox with 3:24 remaining.
The Hawks would not get any closer than seven the rest of the way.
Atlanta plays the final game of its five-game road trip tonight in Phoenix against the Suns. The Hawks are 1-3 on the current road swing.
