(Basketball News) - Atlanta went back to its old ways on Wednesday night, dropping an ugly 112-82 decision to Phoenix at America West Arena.
Newly-acquired Antoine Walker collected 21 points and 13 rebounds for the revamped Hawks, who had a completely different starting lineup than they had in last year’s season-opener. Al Harrington had 13 points and six rebounds in his debut with the team, which suffered a similar result despite the new faces.
Atlanta’s Mike Woodson made his head coaching debut. Rookie Josh Childress scored 12 in his first NBA game.
Kenny Anderson had seven points in his first game with Atlanta, while Boris Diaw-Riffiod had three in his start.
Phoenix has won four of the last five and nine of the last 11 versus Atlanta.
Phoenix led 28-23 after one and then put the game away in the second quarter. A 9-2 run widened the lead to 37-25. Then a 13-2 run later gave the Suns a 50-29 cushion. Atlanta didn’t challenge down the stretch.
Atlanta has a day off before continuing its three-game road trip in Seattle on Friday night.
