NCAA Game Summary - Oregon at Arizona

Tucson, AZ (Basketball News) - Salim Stoudamire posted a game-high 22 points and Channing Frye added 19 points and seven blocked shots, as 10th-ranked Arizona pounded Oregon, 92-67, at the McKale Center.

Hassan Adams posted 17 points for the Wildcats (22-4, 12-2 Pac-10), who have won five straight and 10 of their last 11 contests. Chris Rodgers chipped in 11 points, nine assists and three steals in the victory.

Malik Hairston netted 21 points for the Ducks (12-10, 4-9), who have dropped seven of their last eight games. Bryce Taylor netted 15 points in the setback, while Aaron Brooks collected 10 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Brooks also committed 10 of Oregon’s 19 turnovers.

The score was close throughout most of the first half, with each team holding slim leads. Brooks hit a pair from the line to cut the deficit to 32-28 with 4:18 remaining, but Arizona closed the period on an 11-6 stretch to carry a nine-point edge into the break. Stoudamire capped the burst with two seconds left in the period when he drilled a three-pointer to make it 43-34.

Frye led all scorers with 12 points at the half, while Hairston notched nine points to pace Oregon.

The Ducks were able to stay in the game until around the midway point of the second half when Arizona really poured it on. Hairston’s bucket sliced the lead to 52-47 with 14:20 left, but the Wildcats responded with a 16-4 burst to take control of the contest. Adams made a layup to start the run and he also hit a pair of free throws to cap it and give Arizona a 68-51 lead with 9:06 remaining.

The Wildcats simply added to their lead the rest of the way and their cushion reached its apex after Jawann McClellan’s basket made it 90-61 with 2:05 left.

Arizona shot an amazing 70-percent (21-of-30) from the field in the second half.

Arizona holds a 37-18 edge in the all-time series with the Ducks and is 22-5 in games played in Tucson. The ’Cats have also won the last six matchups in the series...The Wildcats connected on 35-of-68 field goal attempts (52 percent), while Oregon made 26-of-52 shots (50 percent).
