NCAA Game Summary - UNC-Asheville at Michigan State

East Lansing, MI (Basketball News) - Paul Davis and Kelvin Torbert scored 15 points apiece, as No. 23 Michigan State rolled to a 92-63 victory over UNC- Asheville.

Alan Anderson added 14 points for the Spartans (8-2), who have won five straight since a loss to George Washington on December 4. Shannon Brown chipped in 13 points and Maurice Ager had 11 in the win.

Omar Collington and Steven Rush scored 14 points each to lead the Bulldogs (3-7), who fell to 0-6 on the road this season.

The Spartans, who improved to 6-0 at the Breslin Center this season, set the tone early with a 13-3 run to open the game.

They hit five of their first six shots while UNC-Asheville went just 1-of-4 from the field over the first 5:47 of the game. Davis scored six of his 12 first-half points during the surge.

The Michigan State lead reached 20 points with 4:34 remaining in the first half when Torbert’s layup capped a 12-0 run and made it 32-12. It got as high as 26 points before the Spartans carried a 42-18 advantage into the break.

MSU shot 56 percent in the first half, compared to just 30 percent for UNC- Asheville.

The Spartans opened the second half with a 15-6 run, taking a 33-point advantage when Anderson’s bucket made it 57-24 inside the 15:00 mark. Their lead reached as high as 38 points at 81-43.

Michigan State shot 56 percent for the game, compared to 45 percent for the Bulldogs...The Spartans are now 126-18 (.874) at home in nine seasons under head coach Tom Izzo...Michigan State leads the all-time series 4-0 over UNC- Asheville, with all four games played at the Breslin Center...K.J. Garland added 10 points for the Bulldogs.
