Phoenix, AZ (Basketball News) - Nate Robinson scored 23 points, Tre Simmons added 15, leading No. 10 Washington to a 79-70 victory over Pac-10 rival Arizona State at Wells Fargo Arena.
Brandon Roy chipped in 12 points and Jamaal Williams had 11 for the Huskies (17-3, 7-2 Pac-10), who rebounded from a 91-82 loss at No. 11 Arizona on Thursday.
Ike Diogu scored 14 and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Sun Devils (15-6, 4-5), who had a two-game win streak snapped. Kevin Kruger added 12 points, Steve Moore scored 11 and Bryson Krueger had 10 in defeat.
Arizona State trailed 34-30 at halftime but grabbed a brief 43-41 lead early in the second half after an 11-3 run. Washington scored the next 11 points, however, and went ahead 52-43 on Williams’ layup with 11 minutes remaining.
The Washington lead reached 11 inside the 4:00 mark before consecutive Diogu dunks breathed some life into the Sun Devils attack. But the Huskies were quickly ahead by 11 again after four free throws.
Tyrone Jackson then had a chance to trim the ASU deficit to eight when he was fouled on a three-point attempt with 50.8 seconds left, but he went just 1- of-3 at the line.
Will Conroy’s free throws at the other end made it 74-62 with 46.8 seconds to play, and the Sun Devils were never closer than eight after that.
Washington led by as many as eight points twice in the first half, the last time coming when a Simmons three-pointer made it 19-11 inside the 12:00 mark.
Consecutive threes by the Sun Devils got them within two points, but they would fall behind by as many as seven before halftime.
