NBA Game Summary - Atlanta at Portland

02.26.2005

Portland, OR (Basketball News) - Zach Randolph scored 31 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Portland Trail Blazers over the Atlanta Hawks, 102-101, at the Rose Garden.

Randolph hit the game-winning basket with 19 seconds remaining, lifting the Blazers to just their second win in seven outings.

Ruben Patterson added 20 points and Darius Miles had 15 points and eight boards for Portland, which ended a two-game slide.

Al Harrington, who had potential his game-winning jumper bounce out at the buzzer, had 25 points for the Hawks, who have dropped six straight overall and continued to struggle on the road. Atlanta has dropped 18 in a row as the visitor, lasting winning on the road in Detroit on December 10.

Boris Diaw-Riffiod tallied a career-high 17 points for Atlanta, which has dropped 10 of 11 overall and 18 of its last 22 contests.

The game was close the entire time with Portland’s largest lead being eight points and Atlanta’s five. The fourth quarter saw Portland lead for a majority of the time, grabbing its largest advantage in the early stages after back-to- back buckets by Randolph for an 83-79 lead.

Atlanta, however, went on a 7-2 burst to take an 86-85 edge. Josh Smith’s driving layup with 8:52 on the clock capped the burst and the game would go back and forth for the next four minutes.

Portland opened up a 96-93 lead when Patterson and Randolph hit consecutive buckets with 3:43 remaining, but four straight points by Atlanta gave the Hawks a one-point edge 97-96 with 2:50 left.

Patterson later hit a two straight shots with his driving layup at the 1:58 mark giving Portland a 100-97 lead. But Atlanta wouldn’t go away and buckets by Josh Childress and Harrington gave the Hawks a 101-100 edge. It was Harrington’s breakaway lay in with 28 seconds left that gave his club the one- point advantage.

However, on Portland’s next possession, Nick Van Exel drive to the bucket and dished to Randolph, who laid it in for the lead.

Atlanta had two chances to win the game, but Predrag Drobnjak’s jumper missed with six seconds left and Harrington’s baseline fade away jumper bounced off the rim and out as time expired.

Drobnjak ended with 19 points for Atlanta, which played without newly acquired guard Gary Payton.

Payton was obtained by the team in a Thursday trade with Boston.

Damon Stoudamire had 14 points and season-high 14 assists for Portland.

Childress ended with 11 points and 10 boards...Atlanta has lost six straight in Portland and six in a row overall in the series...Portland’s Joel Przybilla was ejected in the third quarter for arguing with officials...Portland has won six of nine at home.
