Los Angeles, CA (Basketball News) - Corey Maggette scored 34 points with eight rebounds, and the Los Angeles Clippers rolled to a 101-92 victory over Dallas at the Staples Center.
Elton Brand added 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Clippers, who picked up just their third victory in 12 games overall while extending their home winning streak to seven games. Bobby Simmons scored 18 in the win.
Dirk Nowitzki scored 25 to lead the Mavericks, who had a six-game road winning streak halted. Josh Howard added 16 points in defeat, and Jason Terry scored 12 with 10 assists.
After trailing by as many as 18 points in the game, Dallas crept within five in the third quarter before the Clippers ended the period with a 6-1 burst to lead 79-69 heading into the fourth.
The Mavericks climbed back from a 16-point deficit in the final period with a 10-0 run, pulling as close as 96-90 on Terry’s three-pointer with 2:37 remaining.
Free throws from Simmons and Maggette extended LA’s lead to 100-90, and Dallas was never closer than eight points after that.
LA shot 44 percent from the floor and outrebounded the Mavericks 52-32.
"I was really pleased with our effort tonight," Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy said. "We did a great job on the boards. I thought we really did a good job on Nowitzki too...you’re not going to hold him down, but I was pleased."
The Clippers grabbed a 17-point lead and control of the game with a 13-0 run that bridged the first and second quarters. Maggette scored seven during the burst and Mikki Moore had the other six, with Moore’s bucket giving LA its 40-23 advantage just two minutes into the second.
The Clippers would lead by as many as 18 points before carrying a 60-46 cushion into halftime behind Maggette’s 21 points.
Dallas was as close as five in the third quarter after a 12-2 run got them within 73-68.
