Oakland, CA (Basketball News) - Tayshaun Prince had 23 points and six rebounds, and the Detroit Pistons nearly coughed up a 19-point, second-half lead but held on for a 94-88 victory over Golden State.
The Pistons, the NBA’s hottest team, have won seven straight, 12 of 13 and 18 of 23. Rasheed Wallace had 17 points and nine rebounds while Ben Wallace had a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds for Detroit.
Jason Richardson had 25 points, seven rebounds and five assists to lead the Warriors, losers of seven of nine.
Two-time All-Star point guard Baron Davis made his debut for the Warriors and had 10 points and eight assists. He shot just 3-of-11 from the field, including 1-of-7 from behind the arc.
A see-saw first quarter ended with the Warriors holding a 29-25 advantage.
Golden State opened the second with five straight points to stretch its lead to nine. But Detroit rattled off a 21-9 run to take a 46-43 lead in the final minute of the second quarter. The Pistons eventually took a 46-45 lead into the halftime.
The Pistons asserted themselves in the third quarter, and a Billups three- pointer with 30 seconds left allowed Detroit to carry a double-digit lead into the fourth quarter at 78-66.
The Warriors opened the fourth on a 13-3 run to creep within 81-79 with eight minutes left in the game. But the Pistons had an answer for every Golden State run.
Derek Fisher nailed a trey with 30 seconds left to again pull the Warriors within two, at 90-88. But the Warriors turned the ball over twice in the waning seconds to allow Detroit to escape with the win.
