Los Angeles, CA (Basketball News) - Tayshaun Prince tied a career-high with 26 points on 10-of-15 shooting as the Detroit Pistons won their sixth straight by pasting the Los Angeles Lakers, 111-90, at the Staples Center.
In a rematch of last year’s NBA Finals, the Lakers fell behind early and were unable to overcome the deficit. It was the second and final time this season that the Pistons faced the Lakers. Detroit won by 22 points at The Palace of Auburn Hills earlier this month, another tilt the Pistons led wire-to-wire.
"We played great," said Pistons’ coach Larry Brown. "We shared the ball. We did a lot of good things — a great team effort."
Kobe Bryant had 20 points and 11 rebounds for the Lakers, who had a three-game win streak snapped. Los Angeles had won six straight at home against the Pistons.
Chauncey Billups had 23 points and Rasheed Wallace added 19 for Detroit.
Detroit controlled the action throughout this game, and took an 83-68 lead into the final 12 minutes. The Lakers crept within 85-75 with 9:21 left on a Tierre Brown free throw. But the Pistons ripped off a 20-6 run over the next five minutes to take their biggest lead of the game, at 105-81.
The Pistons jumped out to a 15-6 lead in the opening six minutes, as Rasheed Wallace had eight points. Detroit would lead by a dozen before taking a 28-19 lead into the second quarter.
Detroit outscored the Lakers 30-26 in the second to take a 58-45 advantage into the intermission.
The Pistons played a nearly flawless game. They shot 54 percent from the field, outrebounded the Lakers 41-37, and turned the ball over just five times.
Lamar Odom had 12 points, nine rebounds and five assists for the Lakers.
