NBA Game Summary - Milwaukee at Atlanta

Atlanta, GA (Basketball News) - Michael Redd scored 28 points to lead the Milwaukee Bucks over the Atlanta Hawks, 118-102, at Philips Arena.

Bobby Simmons added 25 points on 8-of-10 shooting for the Bucks, who ended a three-game slide. Maurice Williams tallied 19 points and Jiri Welsch had 14 for Milwaukee, which won for just the third time in 10 games.

"I left here on good terms," said Milwaukee head coach Terry Stotts, who was making his first trip to Atlanta since serving as an assistant with the club. "It wasn’t a question of any animosity or revenge or anything like that. It was more important from a team standpoint to get a win."

Salim Stoudamire had 23 points for the Hawks, who have dropped two in a row. Joe Johnson was held to just 15 points with eight assists for Atlanta, which has dropped six of seven.

After ending the first quarter down 23-20 and trailing 35-31 four minutes into the second, Milwaukee went on an 18-6 run to grab control. Redd had six points during the surge, which was capped by a Williams bucket near the 2 1/2 minute mark for a 49-41 edge.

The Bucks carried the same eight-point lead into the break, leading 54-46 following 24 minutes of action.

In the third, Milwaukee’s advantage hit double-digits for the first time on a Jamaal Magloire free throw with three minutes elapsed, 58-48. That cushion increased to as many as 15 points, 75-60, before the Bucks went into the fourth ahead 79-69.

The fourth quarter saw the Hawks creep within 80-71, but that would be as close as Atlanta could get. Milwaukee later extended to a 19-point lead before cruising to the finish.

"We knew they were going to come out and play aggressive," said Simmons. "They are a young and aggressive team and you can’t take them for granted. We went out there and played our game and won."

Dan Gadzuric finished with 12 points and six blocks for the Bucks, who ended a three-game road trip 1-2.

Josh Childress had 16 points, eight assists and six boards for Atlanta, which fell to 1-3 on its current seven-game homestand.

"I think we’ve kind of forgotten who we were, but we were at least trying to defend a month ago," said Atlanta head coach Mike Woodson. "I’m a defensive coach and we are not playing defensive minded."
