New York, NY (Basketball News) - Stephon Marbury scored 21 points and handed out 16 assists, as the New York Knicks overcame a 26-point deficit to hand Milwaukee a 103-100 loss at the Bradley Center.
Tim Thomas added 20 points and ripped down eight rebounds, as the Knicks snapped a two-game losing streak. Allan Houston chipped in 16 points and Vin Baker posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds in just his second game with the Knicks. Anfernee Hardaway and Kurt Thomas had 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Brian Skinner paced the Bucks with 21 points and 13 rebounds, as Milwaukee lost for the fifth time in the last six contests. Michael Redd scored 19 points and Keith Van Horn added 18. Damon Jones recorded a double-double with 12 points and 14 assists. Joe Smith was Milwaukee’s other double-figure scorer with 15 points.
The loss marked the second one in less than a week that Milwaukee blew a 20- point lead. The Bucks held a 20-point lead in the second half at Philadelphia last Monday, but ended up falling 97-92 to the 76ers.
Redd’s jumper a minute into the third quarter staked Milwaukee to a 65-39 advantage. But the Knicks responded by going on a 15-0 burst over the next three minutes, highlighted by six points from Marbury, to get within 11 at 65-54.
The Bucks pushed their lead to 14 at 76-62 four minutes later on a Jones three, but New York outscored Milwaukee 12-4 the rest of the period to only trail 80-74 after three.
The teams swapped baskets over the first four minutes of the fourth quarter before Desmond Mason laid in a basket to give Milwaukee an 85-78 edge.
New York countered by outscoring the Bucks 11-4 over the next four minutes, keyed by five straight points from Hardaway, to knot the game at 89-89.
Milwaukee led 93-91 on a pair of Jones free throws, but the Knicks ran off the next nine points, including five points from Marbury, to go up seven with 90 seconds remaining.
The Bucks reeled off a quick 5-0 run to get within 100-98, but New York hit three free throws in the final 30 seconds to seal the comeback victory.
The Knicks shot 49 percent (39-of-80) from the floor, while Milwaukee managed to convert just 36-of-86 shots for a 42 percent clip.
Skinner scored four early points as the Bucks raced out to a 10-2 edge three minutes into the first quarter. Milwaukee led by as many as 15 in the opening 12 minutes, and they held a 31-19 advantage after one.
Gadzuric hit a baseline jumper midway through the second quarter to put Milwaukee up by 22 at 47-25. The Bucks built a 61-39 lead at halftime.
