NBA Game Summary - Minnesota at Orlando

03.11.2005

Orlando, FL (Basketball News) - Kevin Garnett had 25 points, 18 rebounds and scored the go-ahead basket with 52.7 seconds remaining as Minnesota edged Orlando, 101-96, at TD Waterhouse Centre.

Troy Hudson added 17 points and hit three key three-pointers in a one-minute, 44-second span late in the fourth quarter to help the Timberwolves to their fourth triumph in five games. Latrell Sprewell also finished with 17 points in the win.

The Magic, who lost their third straight without Grant Hill in the lineup, received a career-high 32 points from Hedo Turkoglu and 19 points and 19 rebounds from rookie Dwight Howard. Steve Francis netted 18 points in the loss while Jameer Nelson had 16 along with seven assists.

Hill has not played since Saturday due to a bruised shin.

Minnesota trailed 88-84 when Hudson buried back-to-back triples to put the visitors up by two with four minutes left. A three-point play by Turkoglu on the ensuing possession put Orlando back on top, but Hudson answered with a trey at the 3:03 mark for a 93-91 lead.

Turkoglu sank two free throws with 1:43 to go which knotted the score at 95-95, but Garnett hit a clutch turnaround and was fouled with less than a minute left. He hit the bonus attempt for a three-point cushion.

The Magic got to within 98-96 after Turkoglu made 1-of-2 foul shots with 21 seconds remaining, but Orlando missed three shots in the waning stages.

Minnesota held a one-point edge at halftime and was up 77-76 after three quarters of play. The T-Wolves lengthened the margin to 82-78 after Wally Szczerbiak’s bucket with 8:26 remaining, but Orlando responded with eight straight points and took an 86-82 lead on Tony Battie’s jumper with under six minutes left.

The Timberwolves had a 24-19 lead one minute into the second quarter before the Magic embarked on an 11-2 run to forge ahead. Francis and Turkoglu each had four points during the spurt, which ended with Nelson’s jumper at the 8:27 mark of the period that put Orlando up 30-26.

The Magic extended their advantage to 45-38 late in the first half on another outside basket by Nelson, but Sprewell scored the first seven points of a 9-0 burst which staked Minnesota to a two-point edge in the final minute. The Timberwolves carried a 49-48 lead into intermission.

Minnesota won for just the third time in its last 14 visits to Orlando...The Magic shot just 6-of-19 in the fourth quarter...Turkoglu scored 31 points in a game two times, most recently against Washington on January 28...Orlando slipped to 21-9 at home...The teams split the season series, as the Magic downed the T-Wolves 87-80 in Minnesota on January 12.
