NBA Game Summary - New Jersey at Charlotte

Charlotte, NC (Basketball News) - Vince Carter recorded 23 points, seven rebounds and five assists to lead the New Jersey Nets past the Charlotte Bobcats, 97-84, on Wednesday night.

Richard Jefferson had 21 points and seven boards, while Jason Kidd finished with 11 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds for the Nets, who put the brakes on a two-game losing streak.

The Nets earned their 1000th win on Wednesday. Since entering the NBA in 1976-77, the Nets have posted a 1000-1362 mark.

Brevin Knight paced the Bobcats with a season-high 23 points, six rebounds and five assists. Primoz Brezec netted 11 points in the loss — Charlotte’s fifth in a row.

Trailing 45-37 at halftime, the Bobcats opened the third quarter on an 11-2 run and Knight’s jumper made it 48-47 minutes into the period.

After Emeka Okafor’s free throws gave Charlotte a 51-47 edge, New Jersey used a 23-5 run for a commanding 70-56 advantage. Carter’s basket ended the surge with 1:46 to go and the Nets claimed a 72-61 lead after 36 minutes.

Cliff Robinson buried a three-pointer early in the fourth quarter for a 77-68 New Jersey lead. Charlotte cut it to 79-74 on a jumper by Knight, but the Bobcats never got any closer and suffered the 13-point setback.

The Nets led by a 22-18 score after the first quarter, and extended their lead to 34-25 on consecutive baskets by Carter with less than seven minutes to go before halftime. New Jersey eventually carried an eight-point advantage into the locker room.

Carter led all scorers at halftime with 16 points, while Knight paced the Bobcats with 11 points.

The Bobcats had a three-game home winning streak come to an end...The Nets improved to 5-0 all-time versus Charlotte...Kidd made 3-of-5 from beyond the arc...New Jersey shot 49 percent, while the Bobcats shot 38 percent...Kidd passed Maurice Cheeks for eighth place on the all-time assists list.
