The incident occurred on LA’s final possession of regulation, when Bryant pulled up for a potential game-winning jumper, with the game tied at 80. Ginobili blocked the shot with 2.7 seconds left in the fourth quarter, and Bryant extended his follow-through, in an attempt to draw a foul, and hit Ginobili in the face in the process.
The Spurs guard fell to the floor, where he lay for a few seconds before walking off the court. Ginobili recovered, and played in the extra session as the Spurs completed the comeback victory.
Bryant finished with 31 points in the loss, LA’s fourth in five games. The Lakers star is averaging 28.4 points, 5.5 assists and 5.4 rebounds this season.
