Celtics try to stay hot against Golden State

12.20.2006

(Basketball News) - The Atlantic Division-leading Boston Celtics will try to extend their winning streak tonight when they host the Golden State Warriors at TD Banknorth Garden.

Boston has won five in a row and kept the streak alive with Saturday’s 106-100 win over the Charlotte Bobcats. Paul Pierce posted 35 points and 11 rebounds at Charlotte Bobcats Arena.

Al Jefferson posted 22 points and 10 rebounds for the Celtics, who lead the Atlantic by a half game over Toronto. Delonte West scored 14 points off the bench and Tony Allen added 11 points and seven boards.

The Celtics are 4-8 in Beantown this season.

Meanwhile, Golden State has lost three straight to open a six-game road trip. On Monday, the Warriors suffered a 105-97 loss to the New Jersey Nets at Continental Airlines Arena.

Baron Davis had 25 points, eight rebounds and nine assists, but also turned the ball over eight times for Golden State, which is just 1-8 on the road this season and will visit Orlando and Miami to close out the trip.

Boston and Golden State split a pair of meetings last season. The Celtics have won four of six and six of the last nine matchups with Golden State.

The Warriors have dropped three straight and four of five in Boston.
