Colorado Springs, CO (Basketball News) - Nick Welch, a center on the Air Force basketball team, will miss the entire 2005-06 season after having ankle surgery last month.
However, Welch, a senior, has been granted a medical turnback by the NCAA, meaning he will be able to play in the 2006-07 campaign.
Welch underwent surgery to repair a damaged tendon in his left ankle on September 6, just seven weeks after having a surgical procedure to mend a broken bone in his left foot. The latest surgery was the fourth in three years for Welch.
In 30 games last season, Welch was second on the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 12.0 points and 3.6 boards per game. Welch was rewarded with a second-team all-Mountain West Conference selection.
