Hawks try to avoid ninth straight loss against Clippers

(Basketball News) - The Los Angeles Clippers play the fourth of a six-game road trip when they visit the slumping Atlanta Hawks tonight at Philips Arena.

This is the first of two meetings between the clubs this season. The Clippers are scheduled to host the Hawks on February 14th at the Staples Center.

The Clippers have won three straight after losing their last eight at Atlanta. Los Angeles has won six in a row in this series.

LA is 1-2 on the current swing. On Friday, Gilbert Arenas scored 29 of his 35 points in the first half as the Washington Wizards cruised past the Clippers, 116-105, at the Verizon Center.

Elton Brand had 29 points and 12 boards in the loss to Washington for the Clippers, while Chris Kaman collected 17 points and 10 rebounds and Corey Maggette finished with 15 points off the bench.

The Clippers are 3-12 as the visitor this season. They will visit the Hornets on Monday and the Timberwolves on Wednesday.

Atlanta has lost a season-worst eight straight games. Chris Bosh poured in 21 points and grabbed five rebounds as the Toronto Raptors knocked off the Hawks, 105-94, on Friday at Air Canada Centre.

Marvin Williams posted 24 points on 9-of-15 from the field for the Hawks, who have lost nine of their last 10 games overall. Speedy Claxton netted 18 in defeat.

The Hawks are 4-9 at home this season. They will visit the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday at Conseco Fieldhouse.
