Hawks visit City of Brotherly Love

12.14.2005

(Basketball News) - The Atlanta Hawks try to extend their winning streak to a season-best three games this evening when they wrap up a brief two-game road trip against the Philadelphia 76ers at the Wachovia Center.

On Tuesday, Al Harrington scored 20 points and Tyronn Lue added a season-high 19, as Atlanta defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers, 100-94, at Quicken Loans Arena.

Joe Johnson contributed 18 points and nine rebounds for the Hawks, who have won two straight games following a seven-game losing streak. Atlanta, which defeated the Spurs on December 11, also posted back-to-back wins for just the second time in its last 102 games.

A win tonight would give the Hawks their first three-game winning streak since winning three in a row from April 9-12, 2004.

Atlanta, which will return home for two games after tonight’s affair, is 2-10 away from home this season.

Philadelphia, meanwhile, comes in on a winning note after Chris Webber scored 27 points, including the game-winning basket in overtime, and also grabbed a season-high 21 rebounds as the 76ers defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves, 90-89.

Allen Iverson contributed 19 points and dished out 10 assists while Kyle Korver tallied 13 points for Philadelphia, which has won three straight games.

Trailing 89-88 in overtime, Webber buried a jumper to put the 76ers in front 90-89 with 2:48 remaining. Minnesota had a chance at the buzzer, but Kevin Garnett’s desperation jumper fell short as time expired.

Webber, who also had two big blocks in the closing minutes, posted his ninth career 20-point, 20-rebound performance.

The Sixers, who will close a three-game homestand against the Miami Heat on Friday, are 8-4 in their arena this season.

Philadelphia took three of four from the Hawks last season and has won four of five and six of the last eight meetings. Atlanta has also struggled in the City of Brotherly Love, where they have lost three straight and nine of 11.
