(Basketball News) - James Posey scored 11 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter to lead Memphis to an 88-83 win over Houston on Monday at the Pyramid.
Pau Gasol posted 24 points and 11 rebounds for the Grizzlies, who earned their fifth straight victory. Mike Miller scored 20 points.
Memphis continues to add to its team record of most wins prior to the All-Star break (22). The previous high was 14 in 1999-00.
Memphis rallied from a 75-67 deficit to go ahead 83-77 with 4:04 left to play. Gasol registered six during the flurry. Yao Ming’s dunk less than a minute later got Houston within 83-81, but Posey hit a three-pointer 25 seconds later from the left wing to push the Memphis edge to 86-81.
The Rockets got no closer than three points the rest of the way.
In honor of Martin Luther King Day, the Grizzlies recognized several coaches and players, such Al Attles, Clifford Ray, John Thompson and Patrick Ewing, Memphis C Lorenzen Wright and his father, Herb, and former Memphis State coaches Gene Bartow and Larry Finch.
Memphis returns to the court on Wednesday when they welcome the Los Angeles Lakers to the Pyramid.
