Memphis Grizzlies Team Report - November 20 11.20.2003
|
(Basketball News) - The Memphis Grizzlies had their three-game winning streak halted on Wednesday, as they fell to the Detroit Pistons, 99-92, at The Pyramid.
Mike Miller and Lorenzen Wright each scored 18 points in the losing effort for Memphis, which had a three-game win streak come to an end. Pau Gasol had 13 points and 12 boards in the loss.
While Detroit was coming off a hard-fought victory over the Lakers on Tuesday, Memphis was extremely well rested. The Grizzlies had not played since an overtime victory against Dallas on Saturday.
The Pistons trailed by three at the break, but it was Memphis that seemed to lose steam in the second half. Detroit used a 17-1 burst that lasted over seven minutes to take a commanding lead. Chauncey Billups exploded for 10 points during the spurt and his reverse lay-in with 5:39 left in the third made it 68-55.
Billups ended with 14 points in the period, hitting all four of his field-goal attempts, including 2-for-2 from behind the arc. The explosive point guard also hit all four of his free throws in the stanza, helping the Pistons take a 77-67 advantage into the final period.
Memphis hit just 5-of-21 shots from the floor during the disastrous 12 minutes that saw them get outscored by a 28-15 margin.
The Grizzlies continued to struggle against the Pistons. They have lost all five meetings between the teams since moving from Vancouver to Memphis prior to the 2001-02 season.
Memphis begins a three-game road trip on Friday evening, as they travel to KeyAren to face the Seattle SuperSonics.
