Miami’s Haslem suspended, misses Game 2

04.25.2006

New York, NY (Basketball News) - Miami Heat forward Udonis Haslem was suspended for Monday’s quarterfinal contest against Chicago without pay for throwing his mouthpiece at an official.

Haslem was ejected in the second quarter of Game 1 for throwing his mouthpiece in the direction of referee Joe Crawford.

The Heat won the game, 111-106.

Haslem was going for a rebound and got tangled up with Chicago’s Andres Nocioni under the Bulls’ basket with 4:11 left in the half. Haslem tumbled to the floor, and obviously upset a foul wasn’t called, removed his mouthpiece and threw it at the legs of Crawford.

Crawford immediately called a double-technical on Haslem, who was sent to the tunnel leading to the locker room.

The Florida product’s presence was missed in Game 2, however Miami still won its second consecutive quarterfinal contest, 115-108, over the Bulls on Monday.

"We missed his effort, his rebounding and his defense," said Miami head coach Pat Riley. "We were able to open up the floor a bit more, and I think they made up for his absence."
