11.28.2006

East Rutherford, NJ (Basketball News) - Rookie Adam Morrison poured in 22 points and dished out five assists as Charlotte edged New Jersey, 96-92, at the Continental Airlines Arena.

Sean May chipped in with 20 points, seven rebounds and five assists off the bench for the Bobcats, who snapped a two-game skid. Primoz Brezec tallied 13 points while Gerald Wallace and Raymond Felton had 12 apiece.

Richard Jefferson netted a game-high 27 points and seven boards for the struggling Nets, who have lost six straight contests. Vince Carter pitched in with 25 points but shot just 5-of-17 from the floor and had five turnovers, while Nenad Krstic donated 20 points for New Jersey.

Jason Kidd pulled down 10 rebounds and distributed nine assists but managed just six points in the game.

The Nets found themselves down by five points entering the final frame and tried to chip away. Carter busted a three, with 7:26 remaining, to make it a 83-81 game, but Morrison responded for the Bobcats.

First, the star rookie hit a running jumper from the baseline and followed that with a long three to silence the crowd and give Charlotte an 88-81 advantage with 5:27 on the clock.

New Jersey had one last run in them and three straight Carter free throws made it a two-point game, 92-90 with 1:02 left.

Carter had a couple chances to even things or put the Nets on top. The dynamic forward missed a running left-hander from in the lane with just under a minute left and then came up empty on a long three from the left wing with just 16 ticks remaining.

The Bobcats then managed to hit enough free throws in the waning moments to secure the win.

Charlotte shot a sizzling 58 percent in the opening quarter en route to taking a 31-26 edge and continued to play well in the second quarter. The Bobcats extended their lead to double digits, 59-49, at intermission.

The Bobcats continued to play frontrunner and led 74-69 through three quarters.
