President Steve Patterson will serve as interim general manager and the organization will initiate a search for a new GM.
"All of us at the Trail Blazers appreciate John’s effort and hard work under difficult circumstances and thank him for the enormous class he displayed throughout his time here," Patterson said.
Nash recently finished his third season with the club, which struggled to a 21-61 record. Prior to his arrival in Portland, Nash worked as a TV color commentator for two seasons. Before that stint, Nash had been a GM in the NBA for 15 years, which included stops in Philadelphia, Washington and New Jersey. Nash was part of the Sixers organization when the club won the NBA title in 1983.
"I want to extend my deepest gratitude to the Trail Blazers organization for the opportunity afforded to me to be a part of this team and this community over the last three seasons," Nash said. "Although we shared some successes as an organization, I wish we could have made more rapid progress on the court."
Portland’s record last season was its worst since 1973, when the Blazers had the same mark.
