National Basketball Association Playoff Game Capsules

05.8.2005

Miami, FL (Basketball News) - Dwyane Wade scored 20 points and handed out seven assists to lead the Miami Heat to a convincing 105-86 win over the Washington Wizards in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series at AmericanAirlines Arena. Shaquille O’Neal ended with 19 points and seven boards before fouling out for the Heat, who will try and take a 2-0 series lead when they host Game 2 of the best-of-seven set Tuesday night. O’Neal, who finished a close second in the MVP voting to Phoenix guard Steve Nash, saw only 26 minutes of action due to early foul trouble. Miami, the top seed in the Eastern Conference, played for the first time since last Sunday when it completed a four-game sweep of New Jersey in the first round of the playoffs. Washington, meanwhile, had just finished its opening-round series against Chicago on Friday. Gilbert Arenas poured in a game-high 25 points and had six steals on Sunday for Washington, which has lost nine straight games to the Heat, including all five this season.

Final Score: San Antonio 103, Seattle 81

San Antonio, TX (Basketball News) - Tony Parker had 29 points and Tim Duncan scored 22 points, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked four shots, as the San Antonio Spurs routed the Seattle SuperSonics, 103-81, in Game 1 of their Western Conference semifinal at SBC Arena. Glenn Robinson had 16 points and Manu Ginobili added 10 points for the Spurs, who never trailed and led by as many as 30 points on their way to taking the early series advantage. Game 2 is scheduled for Tuesday again in San Antonio. Rashard Lewis had 19 points to lead the Sonics, who played a majority of the contest without their best player. Guard Ray Allen went down with an ankle injury in the second quarter and did not return. Allen finished with just eight points after scoring an average of 32.4 points in the first round.
