Forget L.A. & Washington: Why low risk, high reward Brown works in Detroit

July 29 08

They didn’t pick him first overall. Or give up an All-Star to get him. The Detroit Pistons will only invest cold, hard cash in Kwame Brown.

There’s no emotion. There’s no face of the franchise tag. And, best of all for Brown, no all-time great superstar or coach is setting unrealistic and unattainable expectations. Just a play and get paid every two weeks arrangement.

The details are two years, eight million dollars –a fair wage for Brown to learn, develop, and grow into a legit NBA player.

This provides a low risk, high reward situation for the player and team. Brown gets a fresh start in Detroit, where a model organization will provide an excellent environment for him to hone his craft and get past his rep as The Human Curse.

The whole resurrection in Motown concept has worked before. Many players –like Chauncey Billups, Ben Wallace, and Rasheed Wallace- escaped a troubled past or developed their career calling The Palace at Auburn Hills home.

The Pistons get his rebounding, defence, and all-world athleticism. If Brown develops, say an offensive upside or on-court consistency, they can then re-sign him to an extension. If he fails, Coach Michael Curry can call on Rasheed Wallace, Antonio McDyess, Jason Maxiell or Amir Johnson.

Brown also gives Detroit frontcourt depth, which could be useful in potential trades. Remember, the club had been chasing big-ticket stars all summer and an extra post could ease parting with up-and-coming talents like Johnson or Maxiell.

Again, low risk, high reward. Perhaps, we haven’t heard the last of Brown. And perhaps, the story of The Human Curse has a happy ending.

I like Kwame Brown! He’s athletic and good at defense and thats all what he needs. He is only bonus for magic four: Billups, Hamilton, Prince, Wallace. They can score, so Pistons have all(except better Head Coach) to try to win NBA Championship next seasion. .
