Miami Heat Chasing Minnesota T-Wolf Ricky Davis, Phoenix Suns’ Shawn Marion, & Utah Jazz’s Andrei Kirilenko

September 27 07

The Miami Herald reports that the Heat are interested in Ricky Davis:

The Heat’s interest likely centers on swingmen Ricky Davis and Trenton Hassell, veterans who apparently don’t fit in Minnesota’s plans to rebuild ... Davis, 28, averaged 17.0 points, 4.8 assists and 3.9 rebounds last season and is due $6.8 million in the final year of his expiring contract.

The Herald also reports that Pat Riley and Miami are looking at acquiring Shawn Marion or Andrei Kirilenko:

The Heat could also take one more swing at a blockbuster deal and is monitoring the potential availability of disgruntled Phoenix Suns forward Shawn Marion and Utah Jazz forward Andrei Kirilenko.

My Quick Take: There are two ways the Miami Heat can upgrade their roster: the easy way and the hard way.

The easy way would be to take a run at Minnesota guard Ricky Davis. The T’ Wolves are rebuilding around their youngsters and the fear is that Slick Rick could turn into a locker room malcontent. Remember, the Cleveland Cavaliers dealt Davis during LeBron James’ first season for this exact reason. The veteran two-guard, because of his reputation, will be available.

Davis is also cheap. He makes seven million dollars per season, which is a reasonable wage for such a talented player. And his contract also expires at the end of the season, always a positive. Davis’ athleticism, defense, and scoring could be an asset in South Beach.

The hard way would be to take a run at Marion or Kirilenko. These two forwards are better than Davis, so Phoenix and Utah would want something tangible in return. The Matrix and AK-47 both have expensive contracts and, right now, the Suns and Jazz aren’t even saying if their stars are available.

So the Heat has choices. But, in a sense, they don’t have a choice. The club must do something. After all, most Eastern Conference clubs improved during the summer and Pat Riley’s squad failed to keep pace.

Who should the Heat acquire: Ricky Davis, Shawn Marion, or Andrei Kirilenko? Get at us in the comment box below with your thoughts.

AK isnt physical enough and isnt happy anywhere as wel las he is getting older and we need younger talent.Davis is a hog and wont accept the fact hell be a thrid option,i think trading haslem , Doleac and J will for MArion is perfect.WADE SHAQ MARION is a all allstar team as your first 3 options .

Small Forward Ricky Davis brings a lot of what The Miami Heat needs, SCORING, SPEED, EXCITEMENT, FINISHER ON THE BREAK, DEFENSE, TOUGHNESS, AFFORDABLE CONTRACT. With Wade the only other player that has all of these qualities being out for the begining of the season we desperately need to get this guy by any means necessary and encourage him to continue to be agressive even after Wade gets back because DWade cannot continue to carry the team by himself like he did in 2005 & 2006 Championhsip Runs. A team like The HEAT could afford to give Wade somedays off if they had a player like Davis but currently whenever Wade sits we look more like the Atlanta Hawks than the 2006 World Champion Miami HEAT! .

Shawn may more effectiv in both off and def as well, but his teamwork game isn’t good enough... RD can handle the ball well but his attitude brings a lot of problems... AK would be the best among them as he can fit in Miami’s game with his versatility... Orz .

Ricky Davis is not poison but he isn’t a team player. I really can’t see him sitting back on the shots. When he is on he is great. .

And here I was hoping that Ricky Davis would dominate the offense in Minnesota, along with AL Jeff in the post, and pump up my fantasy basketball stats. Please, for the sake of my fantasy basketball team, please keep Davis in Minnesota! .

I think the Heat should get davis and hassell and if possible, trade hassell, williams, and maybe haslem for marion. this would be a great trade for the heat because they get a great player and they can free up some cap space .

I think the heat should try to get Davis to help build around Dwade and Haslem and D wright. We all know Shaq is only gonna play 45 games this year at the most so why not try to get available talent around that young group of talent. .
