Miami Heat Chasing Minnesota T-Wolf Ricky Davis, Phoenix Suns’ Shawn Marion, & Utah Jazz’s Andrei KirilenkoSeptember 27 07 The Miami Herald reports that the Heat are interested in Ricky Davis:
The Herald also reports that Pat Riley and Miami are looking at acquiring Shawn Marion or Andrei Kirilenko:
My Quick Take: There are two ways the Miami Heat can upgrade their roster: the easy way and the hard way. The easy way would be to take a run at Minnesota guard Ricky Davis. The T’ Wolves are rebuilding around their youngsters and the fear is that Slick Rick could turn into a locker room malcontent. Remember, the Cleveland Cavaliers dealt Davis during LeBron James’ first season for this exact reason. The veteran two-guard, because of his reputation, will be available. Davis is also cheap. He makes seven million dollars per season, which is a reasonable wage for such a talented player. And his contract also expires at the end of the season, always a positive. Davis’ athleticism, defense, and scoring could be an asset in South Beach. The hard way would be to take a run at Marion or Kirilenko. These two forwards are better than Davis, so Phoenix and Utah would want something tangible in return. The Matrix and AK-47 both have expensive contracts and, right now, the Suns and Jazz aren’t even saying if their stars are available. So the Heat has choices. But, in a sense, they don’t have a choice. The club must do something. After all, most Eastern Conference clubs improved during the summer and Pat Riley’s squad failed to keep pace.
