Milwaukee Matches Miami’s Offer To Charlie Bell, Where Does This Leave Bucks & Heat?

September 20 07
The Associated Press reports on Milwaukee matching Miami’s offer sheet to Charlie Bell:
Against his wishes, the Milwaukee Bucks moved to keep Charlie Bell on Thursday.

The Bucks confirmed they matched an offer sheet Bell signed with the Miami Heat for the restricted free agent guard, a five-year worth $18.5 million.
My Quick Take: Flashback to summer, 2003. Miami was rebuilding. And they had their eyes on two of the L.A. Clippers restricted free agents: Elton Brand and Lamar Odom.

The Heat landed Odom by first tendering Brand an offer sheet. The Clipper matched the offer to Brand, but had no money left for Odom. The lanky forward spent one season in
South Beach before heading west to the Lakers as part of the Shaquille O’Neal trade.

Four years later,
Miami tried the same strategy with a pair of Milwaukee guards. Only this time it didn’t work. Mo Williams ignored Pat Riley’s text messages and re-signed with the Bucks. And Milwaukee matched the Heat’s offer sheet to Charlie Bell-even though he wasn’t interested in returning to Wisconsin.

Where does this leave both teams?

The
Milwaukee Bucks:

With Bell back in the fold, the Bucks are much deeper. He’s a great third guard. And I do believe Bell will put his feelings for the organization aside and play hard.

Bell’s minutes could get squeezed, though. The Bucks are hoping Michael Redd can stay healthy for an entire season. And newcomers Desmond Mason and Royal Ivey will get some minutes at the guard spots.

The
Miami Heat:

The Heat still have to upgrade their roster and find another scorer to complement Shaq and Dwyane Wade. Sacramento’s Mike Bibby is an option.

Dude, Bell is not a nickel and dime player. Plus, he is still young. Mo William prayed to the Milwaukee management to keep Bell. Bell played all 82 games last year. He probably one of the best back-up point guard in the game. And he can drain the three. However, I agree with an earily post. Milwaukee management has letf a sour taste in Bell’s mouth. It might back fire on them when they search for other talented player. .

Bell would have been in a better situation in Miami for several reasons 1.Personal Growth under Riley 2.More playing time and chance to make a difference 3.Better Team + Playoffs with Shaq, DWadeSometimes teams should think about the player and whats in his best interest. Last year Miami needed Derek Anderson but he wanted guaranteed minutes and the Heat agreed to a buyout againts its own wishes so that DA could be happy. Hopefully it works out for Bell but He and I would have liked to see him in a Heat uniform. .

It is an outrage my brothers, that Milwaukee would withold a good opportunity from Bell. He wanted to move on after Milwaukee didn’t make him a priority until someone else showed serious interest in him. Another sign of an unjust system holding a brother back, when will the madness stop? .

Maybe they have something up their sleeve. It’s odd for them to be signing all these guards. Maybe a trade with Miami is possible, who the hell knows. I do know one thing Miami needs to quit picking up these nickel and dime players, and get some real ballers on the team to make another run while they still have Dwade and Shaq .
